What is a Personal Representative Bond?

A Personal Representative Bond ensures that the person appointed to settle an estate will not misappropriate estate funds. The bond is there to protect the interests of beneficiaries and creditors. In the State of Maryland, the bond is required as a guarantee that all court cost, estate taxes and fees are paid.

When is a Personal Representative Bond required?

When a person petitions to be appointed the Personal Representative of an estate,the court will determine if a bond is needed and the bond amount required to cover estate assets.

What is needed to apply?

You will need court documents, a driver's license or ID card, a completed application and a Letter of Representation from Attorney (only required if the bond amount is over $25,000)
